Sherman Library & Gardens offers an inspired line-up of classes and events every month for you to enjoy! With offerings ranging from wellness workshops and children’s activities, to floral design classes, lectures in the library, and plant shows, there is something for everyone to experience.

CANCELED – Hands-on Workshop: Growing, Using and Enjoying Luffa
You may be surprised and delighted to learn that Luffa (Loofah) sponges do not come from the sea but are a vegetable in the gourd and cucumber family and can easily be grown in your own home garden. Learn how to start your own seeds and how to care for your plants. You will plant seeds to take home, create a bar of luffa soap, and a jar of soothing luffa sugar scrub and decorate a gift tag or market tote using luffa gourd slices.

Join local artist Erna Van Dyk as she teaches you how to see and paint color and simple shapes. This month Erna takes inspiration from the anemones in the Central Garden. Classes are designed for all levels of painter and non-painter. Each participant will take home her/his own charming painting. Fee: Members $35, Non-members $45 Purchase Tickets

Learn the basics of pastel technique from artist Gianne de Genevraye and take inspiration from the garden. This outdoor workshop, in a non-competitive atmosphere, will include practical exercises to understand the technique of pastel painting, understanding light direction and shadow and negative space. We will complete a finished drawing of a simple floral composition from the garden.

Explore nature through the wonderful world of books. Join us every Friday at 10am as we share our favorite stories, picture books and poems. Free of charge for preschool children and their caregivers.
