Guided by Backhausdance professional dancers, participants will explore contemporary dance movements inspired by the hummingbirds and many other birds that fill Sherman Library & Gardens with vibrancy and life. You can become a bird in flight by soaring, gliding, hovering, and flocking through our fun and collaborative movement-making workshop.

Inspired by the colors, patterns, and graceful flight of these remarkable pollinators, participants will create movement phrases and explore the wonder of change and growth through movement. We will create and share a unique Dance of the Butterflies, celebrating imagination, self-expression, and the beauty of nature. 

Join us for a Sherman Member Excursion that will meander through Bluebird Canyon Farm, a 15-acre biodynamic farm and design center in the heart of Laguna Beach. This guided tour will describe the history of the farm and its impressive current operations.  

Join us to celebrate Newport Beach Art Week! Experience the energy, teamwork, and interconnectedness of the hive in this lively and engaging dance workshop led by Backhausdance professional dancers. Inspired by the movement and cooperation of bees, we will explore rhythm, community, and collective creativity through fun contemporary dance movements and create and share a unique Dance of the Bees. Together we will discover how individual contributions can come together to create something vibrant and meaningful.

Discover the magic of acrylic pour painting in this hands-on workshop with Art Journey by Shila, where art and creativity flow! You’ll learn the mesmerizing technique of pouring vibrant acrylic paints onto canvas to interact and transform into stunning organic patterns. No two pieces are ever the same! No experience needed — just bring your creativity and enjoy the process. All materials are provided, and each participant will take home two unique acrylic pour artworks!!

You’re invited to join the Southern California Hibiscus Society and the South Coast Plumeria Society for a colorful weekend at+ Sherman Library and Gardens.  Hibiscus and Plumeria flowers both conjure visions of the tropics, and they complement each other very well in the garden.  There will be beautiful displays of flowers and plenty of different varieties for sale.  

Keep plants thriving and reduce pests using earthworm castings and worm tea.

This workshop will include a demonstration of how to root a plumeria cutting.  The discussion will focus on proper soil, sun, and watering requirements.
