Volunteers
In 1972, five ladies met at the Gardens for tea and formed the nucleus of what is now our Volunteer Association. The current membership of over 150 hard-working, dedicated people helps wherever needed, donating thousands of hours annually tending baskets and flower beds, and working in the greenhouse and Garden Shop. Volunteers also spend time each week in the Library maintaining clipping files, while others work at indexing and organizing the various materials.
Docents
The Docent Guild of Sherman Library & Gardens was founded in 1980. The volunteer Docents provide tours of the gardens for visiting groups such as schools, senior citizen groups, historical societies and garden clubs. The Docents also maintain an informational table, as part of the Docent on Duty program. Docents are available to answer questions, provide directions and give impromptu short tours. Every docent serves as Tour Guide or Docent on Duty at least twice a month on an annual basis and attends regular training and meetings.
