Guided Tour of the San Joaquin Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.

October 7 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Guided Tour of the San Joaquin Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary. Led by Gail Richards of Sea and Sage Audubon Society

Led by Gail Richards of Sea and Sage Audubon Society

Sherman Library and Gardens is pleased to partner with Sea and Sage Audubon Society for a fun and informative excursion at the San Joaquin Marsh.  Located in Irvine, the marsh is a 300-acre coastal freshwater wetland. This unique site functions as a wildlife sanctuary and an urban water purification system.  Experienced Sea and Sage leaders will introduce you to the history of the site, the ongoing partnership with Audubon and the Irvine Ranch Water District, and diverse plants and wildlife.

Get ready to see some amazing birds!  Fall is a great time of year to visit the marsh, and a morning walk gives the best opportunity to identify resident and migratory species.  Learn all about field marks for each species, bird calls and songs, and unique behaviors.
Get Ready for the Tour:
  • This will be a slow-paced walk on trails lasting for about 1.5 hours.
  • Meet in front of the yellow Audubon House.
