Evening Talk: Inspired by Nature

October 27 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Mosaic artwork depicting a person’s face with brown hair, inspired by nature and created using variously shaped and colored tiles in shades of brown, beige, and cream.
An Evening With Mosaic Artist Irina Charny

What does it take to turn thousands of tiny fragments into a work of art?
Join Southern California mosaic artist Irina Charny for a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration, materials, techniques, and stories behind her work.

The artist behind Inspired By Nature, currently on view at Sherman Library & Gardens, Charny will take us inside her home garage studio, where glass, tile, stone, porcelain, and found objects come together to create intricate mosaics inspired by the natural world.

Through photographs and stories, Charny will share her creative process, where she sources her materials, how she approaches commissioned projects, and the stories behind some of her favorite works. She’ll also share how her fascination with mosaics began in childhood in the former Soviet Union and evolved into the nature-inspired work she creates today.

Come see what happens when thousands of individual fragments are thoughtfully brought together to create something extraordinary. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about Charny’s work.

Inspired By Nature is on view through November 20. Artwork in the exhibition is available for purchase.
