German-born William Wendt is considered one of the premier painters in the Southern California plein air movement. A self-taught artist, he painted in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles and then to Laguna Beach in 1912. His post-1915 paintings are characterized by broad brush strokes and by his fondness for the color green.
