Born in San Francisco, Percy Gray one of the state’s best-known professional landscape painters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He studied at California School of Design in San Francisco and the Art Students League in New York. Gray developed a classic representational style of watercolor painting and used this technique throughout his career; he is most often associated with Northern California landscapes with oaks or eucalyptus trees.
