Born in San Francisco, Arthur Cahill studied art at San Francisco School of Design and then in Paris. He first worked as an illustrator for San Francisco newspapers and later as an art editor for Sunset Magazine and as an illustrator for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was famous for his portraits, including paintings of President Hoover and General Pershing. He painted in Pasadena, but lived most of his years in San Francisco.
