Workshop: The Art of Indigo & Shibori

Learn about the mysteries of the plant Indigofera tintoria, otherwise known as Indigo. Together you will make an organic indigo dye vat, then explore the ancient technique of Shibori, a Japanese manual tie-dyeing technique. In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of Shibori pattern making and how to create a variety of shapes focusing on folded, tied and clamped resist dyeing. Make your own napkin set and tea towel to take home.

The class is instructed by Reem Khalil of the LOCA (Laguna Outreach Community Arts). As well as exhibiting widely as a textile mixed media artist, Reem is an award winning surface designer and former Head Visual Designer for the Anthropologie company.
