Sherman Library Open House: Turning Pages for 50 Years

October 22 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Please join us for a Library Open House on October 22 at 5 pm as the library celebrates 50 years since its construction by Sherman’s founder Arnold Haskell.

In 1974, Haskell actualized his vision for Sherman Library & Gardens when the library stacks and archives building was completed. Utilizing precious real estate, he built a two-story structure in his favored Mission Revival architectural style; the top level held space for books, and the lower level consisted of a climate-controlled archival space focused on historical preservation. Mr. Haskell wanted a secure location for Moses Hazeltine Sherman’s papers—papers that served as the foundations of Sherman Library’s mission to preserve the history of the Pacific Southwest. Since its construction, the library has amassed over 15,000 books along with innumerable archival materials such as letters, manuscripts, photographs, maps, films, scrapbooks, and other rare materials.

Light bites and no host bar will be provided.  We hope to see you there!

This is a free event. Registration is required.
