BONSAI DEMONSTRATION: Femina Juniper and Lightning
Sunday, September 5 @ 1 – 3 pm
Free with Garden Admission
During this free two-hour demonstration you will see a 20 year old Femina Juniper tree transformed to look as if it has been the victim of a severe lightning strike, which will add to the look of a forest tree with many years of growth. This is an unusual opportunity to see this major process up close.
Eighteen months ago the Orange County Bonsai Society members began to roughly shape the tree before allowing it to grow for a year. At that time about 30% of the new growth foliage was removed and during subsequent club meetings additional work was done so that, during this demonstration, the tree would begin to take the proper shape of a show tree.
It will take three to four years of continued shaping and wiring for the tree to fill out and really begin to take shape. Each year, the Society will bring the tree back so that show visitors can see the progression.
