DESCRIPTION:Join Sherman for a rare experience touring the enchanting gardens of Mission San Juan Capistrano led by John Bishop\, former Manager of Horticulture at Sherman Library & Gardens.Mission San Juan Capistrano is a cornerstone of Orange County history as the 7th established Spanish mission in California\, dating back to 1776. The gardens surrounding the historic landmark are just as noteworthy as the mission itself. The 8-acre property is home to more than 135 diverse species made up of California natives\, cacti and succulent gardens\, and more than 135 roses.This very special tour will be led by John Bishop\, who currently leads the team of volunteers who tend the gardens of Mission San Juan Capistrano. John has a very special connection to Sherman Library & Gardens; he began his career at Sherman Library & Gardens the same year that it opened to the public in 1966\, and served as Sherman’s Manager of Horticulture for more than 20 years.This will be a most special glimpse into the gardens of a Southern California landmark led by a true expert in the field of horticulture. We can’t wait to see you there! TransportationMembers are responsible for their own transportation to and from Mission San Juan Capistrano. Public parking is available in the surrounding streets near the Mission. The most visible parking lot is on the south side of Old Mission Road and El Camino Real. Please read signage before departing your vehicle for restrictions or limitations on hours. Please plan to afford yourself plenty of time to park and enter the mission—our tour will begin promptly!Specific parking and meet-up instructions will be sent to participants in advance of the excursion. AccessibilityThis is a 1 hour rigorous walking tour that will traverse steps\, and uneven surfaces. Please notify our team in advance if you require any accommodations for accessibility and we will do our best to assist you. Members-Only Excursions are an exciting new benefit exclusively for Sherman Library & Gardens members.
